Blogger Meet & Greet with Leah V.
Lakeside Mall: Lord & Taylor
Sterling Heights, MI
(I’m searching for the perfect fall ensemble for my model for the event.)
I was contacted by Nicole, store manager of Lord & Taylor, to talk about their new and improved Plus-Size section including brands from Jessica Simpson, Calvin Klein, and Michel Kors, just to name a few.
(My beautiful model, Amanda Sweet, in her 1st outfit.)
This was Lord & Taylor’s first blogger meet and greet in-store. I decided to get two models and style them live. I also was able to style myself from head to toe in L&T’s plus section.
Strutting her stuff. All black with a splash of flair and color.
Outfit #2 with paparazzi…A.K.A Style bloggers.
Outfit #3 says I work hard, but I play harder.
I also styled my bff, Madinah. Love the warm-toned accents.
Want to give a huge shout-out to all my blogger buddies that came out to support.
Here are my ladies from Style Trifecta.
Lil Miss JB Style was in the house!
Thanks to the friendly customers who stopped by.
Thanks to Nicole who allowed us to rummage through her store. Haha.
Oh, hey, there’s Eden from Chic in the Tropics.
Baby Dallas, Eden, and Thaad.
All smiles 🙂

Eden: My name is Eden and I’m a life + style blogger, actress, filmmaker and new mompreneur. I blog under Chic in the Tropics, which I’ve had since 2009.; and I have a small but full-service video production company called Reel Clever Films. I’m pretty old in the blogosphere! When I’m not busy shooting something for fun or my business, some of the things I love doing is to check out a movie, studying new techniques about my craft, and of course, shopping!
Q: What was the inspiration/story behind your look?
Eden: I’ve never been a gal who owns a lot of long, flowy dresses, and yet, I zeroed in on this gorgeous electric pleat goddess dress. I wanted to make it very “me” and street-ready by adding the usual suspects from my closet – a black fedora, my go-to leather jacket, and laceup flats. That’s me trying to go out of my usual comfort zone.
Q: How would you define your style?
Eden: Contemporary, parts edgy, parts minimal, parts androgynous. A lot of black and white separates. I like to keep things basic with a bit of a kick.
Q: Who are your style icons?
Eden: Kate Lanphear, Alexander Wang, Erin Wasson
Q: Where do you like to shop?
Eden: As a new mom with a budget, I’m definitely a huge fan of bargains! There is no awesome bargain I will refuse, haha. I love shopping at Saks Off 5th, Barney’s Warehouse, and my absolute favorite: Nordstrom Rack! Ebay has always been pretty good to me lately when it comes to awesome fashion deals.
Q: Have you ever been to NYFW, if so when and what was your fave part?
Eden: I have never been, but it’s definitely in my personal bucket list! Even if I don’t get personally invited to a show (I’m still dreaming for the day, haha) , just to be able to see the NYFW experience for myself and see New York so alive and filled with fashionistas is awesome in itself.
Q: Who is your fave designer?
Eden: It’s very hard for me to pinpoint one particular designer, but my top five includes Alexander Wang, Rick Owens, Rad Hourani, Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez of Proenza Schouler, and my best friend, Philippine fashion designer, Yves Camingue.
Q: Whose show are you most looking forward to this year?
Eden: Aside from some of the designers mentioned above, Viktor and Rolf! You can always trust them to do something unexpected and jawdropping.
Q: What do you like about NYFW more, the runway shows or the street style and why?
Eden: I would say a little bit of both. You can always trust the shows to usher in the key trends for next year; and as a personal style blogger, the street style aspect is so perfect to take sartorial cues from.
Q: Links to any social media pages?
Eden: Aside from my blog, you can also connect with me through Instagram here and my facebook group page here.

Q: Inspiration behind the look?
Mel: Spain! The Spanish style is very simple but bold and dynamic. I wanted to work with that.
Q: How would you define your style?
Mel: Punk kid has fun. I really look at my style as revolving and boundless, there isn’t anything that can’t be made mine.
Q: Who are your style icons?
Mel:Isabella Blow, Gia Carangi, Angelina Jolie and Mae West
Q: Where do you like to shop?
Mel: Forever 21 and online. Most of the time I really have something in mind that I want and it isn’t always “modern” and I don’t want to be bound by that, so I search the world wide web!
Q: Have you ever been to NYFW, if so when and what was your fave part?
Mel: I have not been, but they won’t be able to keep me out for long.
Q: Who is your fave designer?
Mel: There are so many to pick from really! I just like a designer who stays consistent. I consistently like what they produce.
Q: Whose show are you most looking forward to this year?
Mel: I’m always excited to see what Moschino is going to do.
Q: What do you like about NYFW more, the runway shows or the street style and why?
Mel: Wherever the true risk-takers are.

Style Blog X Self

Style Blog X Self
I’ve been blogging for a little second now, but just beginning to take it seriously. Hell, I’ve just started to take myself seriously. Instead of treating my blog like Instagram or Facebook, where I post pretty pictures, I should be treating it like a diary–a virtual diary. Isn’t that’s what blogs are for? Blogs were created to be that independent platform where creatives and internet revolutionaries could have a voice.
Since I am turning the big 2.8. and embarking on different journeys, I am self-reflecting on who I am, what am I doing, and what had I initially set out to do? In these days and times, the world is so fast, people have quick access to so many avenues and channels that no one has time to stop, mediate, and think. And since, I am nearing 30, I feel the need to take a breather and take it down a notch.
Life is everything vs. self. You always have to come back to self at the end of the day. I think that’s important to say, but so easily forgotten. I need the same reminder as well. That’s why I am so grateful to have creatives around me so that they can say, “Hey, you’re getting crazy. Come back to life and we’ll talk. K?”
Like my buddy, Madinah 🙂 Who beats my face and takes photos of me. What more could I ask for? Haha.
I think everyone should walk through life with a long cape on and a smile on their face. We’re getting old, have fun sometimes!
I had a lot of fun with this shoot, even though it was hot as heck outside. Us, Michiganders, aren’t used to very hot days. lol.
Stubby ‘n’ fierce. Bye Felicia!
OOTD: SunniesMania Cat-Eye Shades
Posted August 2, 2015
on:It’s been a while since I was in the area of Downtown Detroit near the previous Tiger Stadium. It has been refurnished for the better, yet still has that ‘old’ Detroit feel to it.
The power of social media and how it can connect people from all over the world. Eden followed me a few months back; I had no idea who she was. I went to a fashion show, and she was there! She came up to me like, ‘Hi. I’m Eden from Instagram!” I’m like, “Heeeeeeey, girl.” The rest is a short history.
Follow her company on Instagram @ReelCleverFilms and http://www.reelcleverfilms.com/
I met so many fashion boos this year. Check out Jordan’s blog, too. http://www.lilmissjbstyle.com/
Yall know my sistah’ friend already. Go follow her @TheeeBeautyQueen on Instagram 🙂
I love my new camera. It has taken everything I do to the next level. And I am learning how to edit.
I was going for an eccentric laid back look. I really love how you can play with fashion and switch your style up. I added a fuzzy turban and a pair of cat-eye shades from SunniesMania. My new fave shade store.
Thanks Eden for capturing these beautiful moments. I love, love, love them and I hope you do, too!
Ragin’ Turbans X Atlanta Edition
Posted July 15, 2015
on:(Photo: Sumiyyah Abdur-Rasheed, MUA: Bertina B., and Model/Stylist: Leah. V.)
The photo above shows a lady who just got off a plane, had about four hours of sleep, and curated an entire photo-shoot with wardrobe included for four models from another state. Mind blown.
(Model: Jonda, Photo: Sumiyyah, MUA: Bertina, Turban/Stylist: Leah V.)
So basically, I was introduced to Sumiyyah of Ann Nahari earlier this year. We clicked immediately. She told me she had equipment. I told her I could get models and curate the shoot. We came up with this set of beautiful photos. Our concept was ‘Ragin’ Turbans’.
(Model: Jonda/ Stylist: Leah V.)
I wanted this shoot to be culturally diverse, as well as body-diverse. We wanted to show people that anyone could rock a turban!
(Model: Brittany, Wardrobe/Turban: Leah V.)
I found Brittany off Instagram. She’s also an Atlanta-native. Boy, did she transform!
I fell in love with this “Golden Girls” sequin top.
So fierce. I can’t even handle it. I love when my team’s work comes to life!
(Model: Erica, Photo: Sumiyyah, MUA: Bertina, Stylist/Turban: Leah V.)
Erica is also a local Atlanta model and a dance choreographer. Such a pleasure to work with 🙂
For this look, I was going for African Queen. I love how the prints mix and collide.
Queen Erica.
I had an idea for a dress. Sumiyyah took my idea and made it come to life. The dress fit like a glove. I love designing!
So, at the end of the day, this was an amazing shoot. Everyone chipped in when I started to freak out. Clothes and bits of fabric was everywhere. All in all I had a wonderful time curating this shoot. Thanks to everyone who was involved :0 🙂 😮

Leah V.’s Hepburn Inspired Photo Shoot
When I begin any photo shoot or creative process, I always choose a theme or an era. Then I allow it to grow, piece by piece, brick by brick. I wanted a dark-haired model and I wanted to create a billowy tulle skirt in black.
Griselda and I are friends on Facebook, she responded to my post looking for a sultry dark-haired muse. And it was set. I usually do colorful ensembles with a lot of print and pattern, so for this shoot I wanted to do the complete opposite.
Initially, I was going for a modern ‘Breakfast at Tiffany’s’ inspired shoot, but then it took a creative turn. Griselda has this Lady Gaga’esque nature about her, so we went with the flow.
Griselda slayed the shoot. She was easy to work with and high-energy. Here’s what she had to say about working with us: “Working with Leah was such a wonderful experience. She let me know her vision, but also gave me the opportunity to give her my personal thoughts. Through laughter and jokes, she kept it professional. I look forward to working with her again.”
I love working with a team of down-to-earth creative individuals. Davide did a wonderful job (as usual) being patient and adding the cool smoky background. And of course my MUA, Madinah, beat her face to perfection.
