SexyPlus Clothing

Toronto, Canada

b8

I was pulled on stage by Nikki Clarke, the fabulous host of the Fuller Woman Expo. I was excited. I ended up winning a $250 shopping spree to SexyPlus Clothing. I am from Detroit, and I had no idea what kind of clothes they had. I assumed from the name that it was a lingerie store. Boy, was I so wrong.

b11

I thought the store was in walking distance from Dundas Square. The sun burnt right through me on the third block. I had forty bucks to my name in Canadian currency, so I hailed a cab. Whew.

b9

I hopped out the cab after another six blocks, and finally, I was at my destination.

b10

It was Sunday, and I didn’t have a phone. I was praying they were still open. And they were! Doesn’t the outside look classy and sophisticated?

b12b14

This is what you see when you first walk in. The counter has some wonderful pieces of jewelry for sale and the dresses on the display and in the window are beautiful (and neat). Along with the beauty of this spot, the smells and scents were amazing, aromatic. I felt like I was on an island.

b16

This is the back of the store. SexyPlus Clothing has sexy lingerie, accessories, shoes, blouses, high-end dresses, and gowns. They have it all.

b15This is one the dresses that I tried on. I love it and it loved me. I didn’t end up getting this one though 😦

The best part of trying on all–and I mean all–of SexyPlus Clothing’s dresses was the fabulous employee, Sabrina. She was–I know–by far the best saleswoman I ever had. She helped me accessorize, she was attentive to my needs as a customer, and we had an awesome conversation about everything in that thirty minute duration. Thank you Sabrina.

Two Stylistah’s. Sherriece (left). And (right)  Ophilia Alleyene, a model in the show. Both were too gorgeous.

b7

I got to take a photo with the owner, Stefanie Augusteijn-Campbell of SexyPlus Clothing. Thank you for the opportunity to show off your clothes in the states.

This is the flyer that set my whole fashionable mind into motion. I said to myself, “you gotta’ get here”.

The show began with a belly dance show. Aye aye aye. Fantastico!

ds20ds24

(left) The show’s host, Nikki Clarke, brought up several audience members to win prizes!!!

(Right) The buxom beauty who works with the founder of the Fuller Woman Expo, Georgia Greenwood, and is the director of U.S. operations, Cassandra Jones-McBryde.  She is also feature editor of Daily Venus Diva Magazine. Werk it diva.

ds

This lady is the sweetest lady ever. She brought me on stage and I ended up winning a $250 shopping spree to SexyPlus Clothing in Toronto. Shout out to Stefanie Augusteijn the owner of the lovely boutique and her saleswoman, Sabrina.

ds21

The oh-so-sexy, fierce, and up and coming plus size model, Tierra Sedgemore

ds6ds7

(Left) We have a motivational speaker, Liz McCallum of Big, Beautiful Wellness, telling us to love ourselves and our bodies. (Right) All the way from Nova Scotia we got a Stylistah in the audience. Shantia Upshaw is the owner/CEO of the Weight is Over Revolution. Several of her models were in the show as well. I stopped her because she is fab with her bright floral print dress. Can you say “showstopper”?

ds23

The models came out fierce

ds8 ds9

Were now going into the actual show which showcased a few Toronto based boutiques. These are my favorite pieces.

ds10ds11

The long Asian inspired dress gives me life. I wanted to go on stage and rip it off of her. Opps. Sorry. I get a little excited when I see a piece of art work in the form of a dress.

ds12ds13

I love the colors here. The models were just too gorgeous.

ds14ds15

Ladies, all I have to say is WERK! Sex kittens for real.

ds16ds19

Simple, elegant colors never looked so good.

ds17

It took me some time to think about it, but this is my all-time favorite dress. I wish I had a picture of the back. Fashion at its best. And look how the model flirts with the fabric and the audience.

ds5

This was the end of the first half of the show. Unfortunately, I didn’t get to stay to see Whitney Thompson, winner of America’s Next Top Model season ten, host. I had to snap this last pic of the models and photographers. Aint’ they adorable?

It is the Islamic holiday, Ramadan, where Muslims are to fast (refrain from water, food, backbiting, and anything else bad) from dawn to dusk. It is day three, and I am going strong! I feel great and look good (as always). I found this dress from like four years ago in my closet. I got it from Dots Fashions and it still looks good. And better yet, I can fit it!

Ab1

The pink scarf I got from an Iraqi lady I worked with a few years ago. She got it from Iraq. The gray cardigan is also a few years old; I think I may have gotten it from Burlington Coat Factory or Dots.

Ab2My friend said I looked sneaky in these pics. I don’t see it 🙂

z

Red, White, and Blue.

z6

I almost fell. Ha. No shoes. Having fun.

z5

The blazer is from Dot’s Fashion, a white tank from Forever 21, and red harem pants from Rainbow Clothing.

z8I’m just going to quit writing and be the first short-plus size model 🙂

z9This aint’ even 100%

z3Talking to me?

Wilkes7

You know I had to take a bathroom pic. All black everything. I was full artsy that night.

Wilkes10

She’s rocking those aviators.

Wilkes11

Simple and Blue.

Wilkes12Wilkes13 Reagan got a bun. Styled by yours truly.

Wilkes14Wilkes15  I was super Glam. Turban done by me.

Wilkes29

I spotted her from across the room. Her feminine and edgy outfit, the asymmetrical hair style, the earrings–everything just works.  And she’s got brains. She graduated that very night. Congrats girl!

Wilkes30

Had to post this pic again. My mentor, Taylor, and I. We’re going to make a great team. On top of us both being skinny, we are style stars in our own right.

I chose a long floral dress, added a tailored electric blue jacket, and a pink turban bun.

WilkesI found this article in the creative writing office. Look! There’s Nathan on top (he’s in our cohort group).

Wilkes1  Wilkes2

We experienced theater (in my snobby voice). There’s Dr. Bonnie in the middle, head lady in charge. She’s too awesome.

Wilkes3

We had a book fair for all the published faculty members and alumni.

Wilkes4

We sung songs that night. And danced to Rihanna. Hi, Rachel 🙂

Wilkes5 Wilkes6 Kelly and I read stories at Bart & Urby’s

Wilkes9

We had Oral Interpretation class.

Wilkes17

Our last night. Wilkes Banquet/Graduation Ceremony.

Wilkes18 Wilkes26 Nathan and Tiff. Nina and I. All love here.

Wilkes19Wilkes23

John and I. Then in the next photo we have Michael and Nina.

Wilkes20Wilkes25

Debra, Kelly, Draper, and I.                                                                         Nicky is due any time now!

Wilkes22Wilkes24

My crew. We are strong. Look at those muscles.

Wilkes28Wilkes31

(Left) Sara and Kevin, my nonfiction professor. He taught me everything I know about creative nonfiction.

(Right) Draper and Sara straight cooling in this pic.

Wilkes27Wilkes32

Cecilia looked amazing that night.                                     Susan and I. She was fab. And Nina in the back laughing at us.

Wilkes30

The highlight of my night, getting to take a picture with my mentor and professor, Taylor Polites 🙂 And we look skinny.

Wilkes35The night was over and I saw this on the way back to the dorm.
