Hey Fashionistas,

I haven’t blogged in about a month, because I have big news! I am switching my blog over to an actual website. I’m working with some amazing people and can’t wait to show off my new page. It should be done soon, so please be patient with me.

I will keep you all in the loop on my new ventures in 2016.

But I’d like to take a moment to give a big cyber hug to all of the readers, followers, and supporters who have been there with me since day one of my blogging journey.

Again hugs and kisses, and I’ll see ya soon.

xoxo

Check out these cool turbans!

Windy City Wardrobe

Whether it’s worn for cultural reasons, fashion, or as a symbol of religion, head coverings will always have a place in society. I wear a head wrap to bed every night to prevent dryness, and occasionally I style one to wear one during the day. How about you; do you wear a head scarf, turban, wrap, bandana, or hijab?

Leah V. Daily:

Tyra Beauty Review

Detroit, MI

SAM_2776 (1)

So as you guys know, I love-s my cosmetics. I can’t always apply it, but I love it nonetheless. I got some cool products from Supermodel, Tyra Bank’s new cosmetics line. I made a vlog about it on my new YouTube Channel: Leah V. Daily Tyra Beauty Review Check that out. And you can also see my beauty regimen as well.

In the gorge selfie above, I am wearing several of her cosmetics. Smack My Fat Lash (Mascara), OOPS Liner, Line ‘Em, Fashion-Able Blush (Cream), Cheek In A Stick, and Light In A Stick.

First off, all these products are hypo-allergenic. There are a few liquid eyeliners that I can’t use because they burn my eyes. Opps Liner was very gentle and I loved the pointed tip and easy glide applicator. It also has an “Oops” tip on the opposite side where you can actually erase messy wing lines and sculpt the point to perfection. The Smack My Fat Lash was also gentle on my eyes and didn’t clump up upon application. I used Line ‘Em on the outer lower water line for extra drama.

WordPress won’t let me rotate this pic! Anywho, turn your computer sideways. Hehe. I used Fashion-Able Blush and Cheek In A Stick on my cheeks. The first one is in a cute little jar and the other in a stick. Both are so easy to blend and lasts all day.

After a long day, my makeup lasted and I was satisfied with the products. If you want to check out the rest of Tyra Beauty or purchase any of her cosmetics go to Tyra Beauty

So we were just about ready to quit–well, I know I was. “The style blogging industry is dead in Detroit,” I whined. I’d had enough. I was invited to the Style Expo and was a style judge. This is where my stylish fate was sealed…I met Jordan. We took some selfies, and then she explained to me what she was trying to do. I was interested.

Eden, myself, Jordan, and Mel

We talked, and talked some more. Then we began brainstorming. We met some other cool bloggers along the way. We all complained how there wasn’t enough or this and wasn’t enough of that. We made up our minds that we needed backup and decided to put a call out for other creatives.

A lot of cool style bloggers from the D!

We only expected it be us four…plus two or three others. To our surprise many bloggers were available and interested!

Shout out to Toasted Oak Grill and Market in Novi for accommodating us rowdy girls.

So our goal is to create a support system and creative platform for Detroit style bloggers to connect to with each other as well as business.

Ladies Night Out

Art Van Furniture

Shelby Township, MI

February 8th 2015

20150208_185012

So this is a funny story. I had a casting call to be at right before Nigel’s book release of “Models of Influence”. Long story short, I got there half an hour late. The ladies at the front desk told me that I would NOT be able to see Nigel or get a signed copy of his book because they gave out all the passes! I died a little inside.

20150208_192429

Out of the blue, an older gentlemen who worded there gave me his VIP pass. I died again. Thanks Art Van man!

While we waited for Nigel in line, we began to sweat and figure out what we were going to say him. We applied our gloss and got the cameras ready.

20150208_184545

This was a dream come true! Nigel was such a gentlemen. He told me he liked my headwrap and that I need to blog about his book. I said, “no prob.” He even commented on my FB stat!

20150208_185133We got our books signed! Make sure you get a copy. It has some amazing photos of models from the 60’s to now.

20150208_184815I will cherish this experience 🙂

I don’t know why I’m so nervous. But, I am. You get to see the @simplybeuk ad here before it’s aired on TV right before the show X Factor tomm. Me. My face. On a whole ass commercial. I’m a bit at lost for what this all means to be apart of the #morethanourbodies campaign, but I just want to share this. I was 13. Bigger than all the other girls my age. Clothes for plus-size folks were nonexistent. On top of that, Mom was a single mother of 5. She hadn’t had the funds. I was frumpy. Some ppl had mistaken me for a boy. My confidence down the drain. Mom put my younger brother in modeling. He was half Black, half Algerian. Everyone said he’d do good modeling because of his looks. I used to watch ANTM. I knew how to smize. Knew all the moves and poses. I sat in the audience watching all the models. Watching my brother not do very well on stage. I could do that, I told myself. I wanted to ask Mom so badly to let me do it, let my try. But, after seeing the others, I noticed that none of them looked like me. That world wasn’t for me. And, if I ever wanted to be involved in fashion, then I’d have to style people thinner than me, taller, more proportionate. On set, I was the shortest girl. The biggest in size. The unsigned underdog of the group. But, I earned my spot as the first fat, Black, and very Muslim model to land a major campaign with a retailer in Europe. I’m not sure y’all understand how major this is. How I’ve never had anyone who looked like me tell me it was okay to be unapologetic. How that little Muslim girl is told no, no, no. With my body, I am telling her yes, fuck yes. And, I’m telling you yes! You are valid, your dreams valid. After you gas me 😂 answer this: who in your life gave you permission to be yourself unapologetically, and how? #ad #detroitblogger #psootd #plussize #instafashion #bodypositive #bgki #effyourbeautystandards #girlboss #pizzasisters4lyfe #blackgirlswhoblog #londonblogger #psfashion #blackgirlmagic #muslimgirl #streetstyle #feminist #fatacceptance #psootd #seventeen #turbanista #honormycurves #bodydysmorphia #instabeauty #intersectionalfeminism #fashionblogger #simplybe #eatingdisorderrecovery #editorial #hijabi
