When bloggers get together, it gets a little crazy. We take random usies.

SAM_3748-0

We pretend to act cool. Haha.

SAM_3769-0

We even stick our tongues out.

SAM_3764-0

But deep down, we genuinely share a love for fashion and art. We strive to inspire through our creations.

SAM_3727
We come from different backgrounds.

SAM_3705

Somehow we just fit together.

Creating new friendships.

Shout out to Bobcat Bonnie’s for housing us rowdy bloggers. Food was good and the service was on point.

Tyra Beauty Review

Detroit, MI

SAM_2776 (1)

So as you guys know, I love-s my cosmetics. I can’t always apply it, but I love it nonetheless. I got some cool products from Supermodel, Tyra Bank’s new cosmetics line. I made a vlog about it on my new YouTube Channel: Leah V. Daily Tyra Beauty Review Check that out. And you can also see my beauty regimen as well.

In the gorge selfie above, I am wearing several of her cosmetics. Smack My Fat Lash (Mascara), OOPS Liner, Line ‘Em, Fashion-Able Blush (Cream), Cheek In A Stick, and Light In A Stick.

“We’ve created innovative, luxurious and easy-to-use products to help you look and feel your fiercest—in just minutes!”

First off, all these products are hypo-allergenic. There are a few liquid eyeliners that I can’t use because they burn my eyes. Opps Liner was very gentle and I loved the pointed tip and easy glide applicator. It also has an “Oops” tip on the opposite side where you can actually erase messy wing lines and sculpt the point to perfection. The Smack My Fat Lash was also gentle on my eyes and didn’t clump up upon application. I used Line ‘Em on the outer lower water line for extra drama.

SAM_3334

WordPress won’t let me rotate this pic! Anywho, turn your computer sideways. Hehe. I used Fashion-Able Blush and Cheek In A Stick on my cheeks. The first one is in a cute little jar and the other in a stick. Both are so easy to blend and lasts all day.

After a long day, my makeup lasted and I was satisfied with the products. If you want to check out the rest of Tyra Beauty or purchase any of her cosmetics go to Tyra Beauty

And I’m ready for my closeup :0

So we were just about ready to quit–well, I know I was. “The style blogging industry is dead in Detroit,” I whined. I’d had enough. I was invited to the Style Expo and was a style judge. This is where my stylish fate was sealed…I met Jordan. We took some selfies, and then she explained to me what she was trying to do. I was interested.

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

Eden, myself, Jordan, and Mel

We talked, and talked some more. Then we began brainstorming. We met some other cool bloggers along the way. We all complained how there wasn’t enough or this and wasn’t enough of that. We made up our minds that we needed backup and decided to put a call out for other creatives.

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

A lot of cool style bloggers from the D!

We only expected it be us four…plus two or three others. To our surprise many bloggers were available and interested!

Eden photobombing. Ha!

Shout out to Toasted Oak Grill and Market in Novi for accommodating us rowdy girls.

So our goal is to create a support system and creative platform for Detroit style bloggers to connect to with each other as well as business.

Style Blog X Self

I’ve been blogging for a little second now, but just beginning to take it seriously. Hell, I’ve just started to take myself seriously. Instead of treating my blog like Instagram or Facebook, where I post pretty pictures, I should be treating it like a diary–a virtual diary. Isn’t that’s what blogs are for? Blogs were created to be that independent platform where creatives and internet revolutionaries could have a voice.

Since I am turning the big 2.8. and embarking on different journeys, I am self-reflecting on who I am, what am I doing, and what had I initially set out to do? In these days and times, the world is so fast, people have quick access to so many avenues and channels that no one has time to stop, mediate, and think. And since, I am nearing 30, I feel the need to take a breather and take it down a notch.

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

Life is everything vs. self. You always have to come back to self at the end of the day. I think that’s important to say, but so easily forgotten. I need the same reminder as well. That’s why I am so grateful to have creatives around me so that they can say, “Hey, you’re getting crazy. Come back to life and we’ll talk. K?”

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

Like my buddy, Madinah 🙂 Who beats my face and takes photos of me. What more could I ask for? Haha.

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

I think everyone should walk through life with a long cape on and a smile on their face. We’re getting old, have fun sometimes!

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

I had a lot of fun with this shoot, even though it was hot as heck outside. Us, Michiganders, aren’t used to very hot days. lol.

It’s been a while since I was in the area of Downtown Detroit near the previous Tiger Stadium. It has been refurnished for the better, yet still has that ‘old’ Detroit feel to it.

The power of social media and how it can connect people from all over the world. Eden followed me a few months back; I had no idea who she was. I went to a fashion show, and she was there! She came up to me like, ‘Hi. I’m Eden from Instagram!” I’m like, “Heeeeeeey, girl.” The rest is a short history.

Shades from SunniesMania!

I was going for an eccentric laid back look. I really love how you can play with fashion and switch your style up. I added a fuzzy turban and a pair of cat-eye shades from SunniesMania. My new fave shade store.

Thanks Eden for capturing these beautiful moments. I love, love, love them and I hope you do, too!

IMG_9013(Photo: Sumiyyah Abdur-Rasheed, MUA: Bertina B., and Model/Stylist: Leah. V.)

The photo above shows a lady who just got off a plane, had about four hours of sleep, and curated an entire photo-shoot with wardrobe included for four models from another state. Mind blown.

IMG_8468 (Model: Jonda, Photo: Sumiyyah, MUA: Bertina, Turban/Stylist: Leah V.)

So basically, I was introduced to Sumiyyah of Ann Nahari earlier this year. We clicked immediately. She told me she had equipment. I told her I could get models and curate the shoot. We came up with this set of beautiful photos. Our concept was ‘Ragin’ Turbans’.

IMG_8558(Model: Jonda/ Stylist: Leah V.)

I wanted this shoot to be culturally diverse, as well as body-diverse. We wanted to show people that anyone could rock a turban!

IMG_8597(Model: Brittany, Wardrobe/Turban: Leah V.)

I found Brittany off Instagram. She’s also an Atlanta-native. Boy, did she transform!

IMG_8698(1)

I fell in love with this “Golden Girls” sequin top.

IMG_8687

So fierce. I can’t even handle it. I love when my team’s work comes to life!

IMG_8929(1)(Model: Erica, Photo: Sumiyyah, MUA: Bertina, Stylist/Turban: Leah V.)

Erica is also a local Atlanta model and a dance choreographer. Such a pleasure to work with 🙂

For this look, I was going for African Queen. I love how the prints mix and collide.

IMG_8799

Queen Erica.

IMG_8834

I had an idea for a dress. Sumiyyah took my idea and made it come to life. The dress fit like a glove. I love designing!

IMG_9039

So, at the end of the day, this was an amazing shoot. Everyone chipped in when I started to freak out. Clothes and bits of fabric was everywhere. All in all I had a wonderful time curating this shoot. Thanks to everyone who was involved :0 🙂 😮

Y’all know I like to dance. For me, dancing is such a major form of body positivity. Especially because once I started gaining the majority of my weight, I swore off dancing in public because of my massive wiggles and jiggles. I didn’t want people to judge me, stare at the blob dropping it like it’s hot. One day, I decided to dance again. Just as unapologetically as the other girls on the dance floor. I decided to go dancing while in LA during my trip. I’m walking around the venue scoping out the scene, in search of the hypest dancers. I see a big girl, a fat girl in a group with her thinner counterparts all dressed in bodycon dresses. The plus-size gal was modest and wore a faux fur vest. She wasn’t dancing, either. I made my way to her at once, tapped her on the shoulder, and said, “I love the way you rock that vest.” She looked over her shoulder with surprise, shock. So, I said it again. Her eyes widened and the biggest smile ran across her big cheeks. The fat friend. I was the fat friend. I am the fat friend. Who was picked over in a group of thinner women to be hit on, to be asked out, to be complimented. Invisible was what I felt like. A compliment goes a long way for marginalized bodies from very big to very thin. Have you ever felt invisible or the odd one around a certain group of friends or felt insecure? Also, do you compliment others? When’s the last time you’ve received a compliment? Any body type can chime in. Let’s chat. 📸 @oliviajlphoto #detroitblogger #psootd #plussize #instafashion #bodypositive #bgki #californiablogger #honormycurves #effyourbeautystandards #pizzasisters4lyfe #blackgirlswhoblog #fashion #londonblogger #psfashion #blackgirlmagic #muslimgirl #plusmodel #wiw #intersectionalfeminism #turbanista #bodygoals #bodydysmorphia #fatacceptance #instastyle #modestfashion #streetstyle #hijabi #selfconfidence #selflove
