Detroit Does NYFW
Eastern Market
Detroit, MI
Photo: Worldiction
As you can see, none of us are going to be attending Mercedes Benz New York Fashion Week. (Pause) *Cries eyes out* So kidding. Although some of us are slightly disgruntled to not be apart of the shows, street style, and glam after-parties with mega supermodels, we decided to have our own little NWFW inspired shoot in none other but the D!

So, JB (with the fur) came up with an idea. Let’s play in clothes (what we usually do anyway) and come up with what we’d wear if we were going to attend NYFW. Genius idea. And how can I deny a photoshoot with the baes 🙂

Our goal here was to fake laugh, which turned into full blown cackles, witch laughter, and hooting. lol
Along with our photographer Scott of Worldiction Arts, we welcomed Nigel, the cool videographer.
Shout out to Alua Aumade for the black and white handmade neck piece (jabot). He’s also got some dope bow-ties. Support your local businesses and check out his Etsy.
We’ll be posting pics of the entire photo shoot the entire week of NYFW on all of our blogs. Stay turned, fashionistas.
Ragin’ Turbans X Atlanta Edition
Posted July 15, 2015
on:(Photo: Sumiyyah Abdur-Rasheed, MUA: Bertina B., and Model/Stylist: Leah. V.)
The photo above shows a lady who just got off a plane, had about four hours of sleep, and curated an entire photo-shoot with wardrobe included for four models from another state. Mind blown.
(Model: Jonda, Photo: Sumiyyah, MUA: Bertina, Turban/Stylist: Leah V.)
So basically, I was introduced to Sumiyyah of Ann Nahari earlier this year. We clicked immediately. She told me she had equipment. I told her I could get models and curate the shoot. We came up with this set of beautiful photos. Our concept was ‘Ragin’ Turbans’.
(Model: Jonda/ Stylist: Leah V.)
I wanted this shoot to be culturally diverse, as well as body-diverse. We wanted to show people that anyone could rock a turban!
(Model: Brittany, Wardrobe/Turban: Leah V.)
I found Brittany off Instagram. She’s also an Atlanta-native. Boy, did she transform!
I fell in love with this “Golden Girls” sequin top.
So fierce. I can’t even handle it. I love when my team’s work comes to life!
(Model: Erica, Photo: Sumiyyah, MUA: Bertina, Stylist/Turban: Leah V.)
Erica is also a local Atlanta model and a dance choreographer. Such a pleasure to work with 🙂
For this look, I was going for African Queen. I love how the prints mix and collide.
Queen Erica.
I had an idea for a dress. Sumiyyah took my idea and made it come to life. The dress fit like a glove. I love designing!
So, at the end of the day, this was an amazing shoot. Everyone chipped in when I started to freak out. Clothes and bits of fabric was everywhere. All in all I had a wonderful time curating this shoot. Thanks to everyone who was involved :0 🙂 😮
“Modern Mod” Shoot X Tra Le
Posted April 30, 2015
on:(Photos: Davide Anderson)
This year I wasn’t going to do any photo shoots, wardrobe styling, or fashion curating. I planned on dedicating all of my time toward my literary career, and attempt to find an agent to get my YA novel published. In January, I was asked to assist on a photo shoot. I accepted. My friend needed help. So I recruited local Vietnamese model, Tra Le. I loved her exotic look and let me tell you, she is amazing!
It was hard to come up with a concept in less than a week, but I Googled and Googled some more, until I stumbled upon a few 60’s Mod photos with Twiggy and “It” girl Goldie Hawn. When you think of this era, you think of white women, liberation, and carefree-ness. I wanted to bring the style forward but mix it up a little by using a cultural aspect into the concept.
I assembled a team first. I got Madinah Muhammad for makeup and Davide Anderson for photography. My friend, Raushaunah, went shopping with me to find this dope floral dress, which fit perfectly.
Ensemble Breakdown:
Flower Headband: Claire’s
Heart Shaped Frames: Claire’s
Dress: Regeneration
Stockings: Hot Topic
Shoes: Model’s own
Tra Le not only had this ensemble to model, but three others before this one. She was a pleasure to work with. She was patient and versatile.
Why has it taken me so long to release these photos? Well, I was trying to send them to magazines and local newspapers to see if they’d like to feature my styles and our story, but no one bit. This industry is hard to break, but I am going to keep funding my own projects until someone notices that Detroit has talent! Quality talent. Please share and support diversity in the fashion and style industry 🙂

I had a photo shoot with Langston Hues last week and I wanted to go for army chic with a pop of color.

This photo is not edited. Big difference, eh? Let’s do a quick OOTD breakdown!
The two scarves I wore for my turban twist were from Forever 21, the yellow blazer and peach kitten heels were from Torrid, the army fatigue peplum top and pants were from Rainbow Clothing.

I am so blessed to have a wonderful makeup artist. I love the lashes. I loved the colors. I am a makeup fanatic.

I don’t know if anyone noticed but I am trying to take over the world. All my life I have been bursting with creative energy and never allowed to explore it. I just turned 26, I have all types of issues ranging from my job and etc. etc. etc. But I am on a mission. I have seen too many things that I must attempt to have. I have three goals. To be a happy and good person. To be a writer. To be in the fashion industry. This is my journey…
These are photos taken with a cell phone. No edits. Yes, I am that fine. And yes, Madinah beat my face to a pulp. The theme for this shoot was “Color Explosion”.
Behind the scenes. Davide took some really nice pics.
I’m reading InStyle Magazine!

For the last month I have been planning a photo shoot. I have been going through photos, makeup looks, and styles. I wanted my shoot to be couture, edgy, and unique. I always see a certain type of revealing and sometimes cookie-cutter style that some people use . I wanted to have a shoot and stand out.
I think we may have done it this time.
Just getting to the shoot proved to be hectic. Madinah and I ended up making it on set an hour and a half late. We didn’t get to do the second look but we got some awesome shots.
Waiting patiently while the photographer, Kenneth Harris, gets the lights right.
Last minute touch-ups by MUA: Madinah.
Do you like my Gaga nail ring? The look I was going for was high-fashion, curvy style.
OOTD: Scary Chic
All styles by me. MUA is the very talented, Madinah. And the professional photos above are by Kenneth Harris
Stay tuned for more…The photo shoots aren’t over.
