Leah V.’s Hepburn Inspired Photo Shoot

When I begin any photo shoot or creative process, I always choose a theme or an era. Then I allow it to grow, piece by piece, brick by brick. I wanted a dark-haired model and I wanted to create a billowy tulle skirt in black.

Griselda and I are friends on Facebook, she responded to my post looking for a sultry dark-haired muse. And it was set. I usually do colorful ensembles with a lot of print and pattern, so for this shoot I wanted to do the complete opposite.

Initially, I was going for a modern ‘Breakfast at Tiffany’s’ inspired shoot, but then it took a creative turn. Griselda has this Lady Gaga’esque nature about her, so we went with the flow.

IMG_0925Griselda slayed the shoot. She was easy to work with and high-energy. Here’s what she had to say about working with us: “Working with Leah was such a wonderful experience. She let me know her vision, but also gave me the opportunity to give her my personal thoughts. Through laughter and jokes, she kept it professional. I look forward to working with her again.”

I love working with a team of down-to-earth creative individuals. Davide did a wonderful job (as usual) being patient and adding the cool smoky background. And of course my MUA, Madinah, beat her face to perfection.

Thank you 🙂

My bestie came all the way from Minnesota to celebrate with us for our Islamic holiday.

I am really loving black lipstick. I kind of want to wear it everyday now.

So I got this pink dress from Ashley Stewart on the clearance rack!

The pink and white scarf and the shades are from Forever 21.

The pics are kind of dark but you get the picture.

I have a lot of fun with my fashion. Since it’s fall it’s time to start working those layered looks.

Madinah planned on doing one last photo shoot for 2013. We both have learned so much about the fashion, photography, and makeup industry. So here are some photos that I styled.

I wanted to go for an edgy glamorous look that mixed prints and utilized pearls. The shades are from Forever 21 and the pearl necklace I purchased from VictoriousMe Online Boutique.

I want to give a huge shout out to Brianna of Barakah Photography who is a beast at editing!

Twirl. Twirl. Twirl.

You guys know that I am goofy!

My friend, Madinah, asked me if I’d like to model with her for Yemisi, seamstress and owner of La Bon Fabrics in Detroit. How could I oblige?

I got my makeup done by none other than the queen of beat faces, Madinah.

Our heads were wrapped by Yemisi and Zarinah El- Amin Naeem (above), author and creator of the “Beautifully Wrapped” movement, which celebrates the vast cultural world of headwrapping. She even has a cool calender she produces every year, the proceeds go to helping children in Africa.

I felt amazing in these custom made threads. The top was giving me life!

Madinah was killing her look. So regal!

Bloopers 🙂

Yaaaaaassss hunty. Makeup. On point. Headwrap. On point.

africa9I felt like a geisha in this ensemble. The skirt was amazing.
