An Eid Celebration

SAM_2430For this Eid (Muslim holiday) I wanted to go for Maleficent meets Jon Snow. I ordered a grass green dress from Etsy and of course it didn’t fit. I freaked out. Then quickly ordered this lace one from F21. The crown, I got from Charming Charlie’s. My new fave accessories store.

SAM_2370A close-up of all of the fashionable goodness. Just simmer in it for a while.

I was the designated photographer for the day. I had to capture all the queens in their royal glory.

SAM_2443Here’s a close up of her turban styled by me. I loved her Sailor Moon inspired crown.

SAM_2389Lamiah’s color combo is appeasing to the eye. And check out the pearl belt detail.

SAM_2410I love playing around in turbans. I just made this one up.

SAM_2418My little sis also slayed in a mint and white color combo.

SAM_2391This photo screams confidence.

SAM_2402A close-up of her neck-piece. It’s all in the detail.

SAM_2421Shanni’s Arabian train was everything.

SAM_2445We all #Queen together.

SAM_2451Had to end the day with a few usies.

SAM_2457Hey there, beautiful.

The photo above shows a lady who just got off a plane, had about four hours of sleep, and curated an entire photo-shoot with wardrobe included for four models from another state. Mind blown.

So basically, I was introduced to Sumiyyah of Ann Nahari earlier this year. We clicked immediately. She told me she had equipment. I told her I could get models and curate the shoot. We came up with this set of beautiful photos. Our concept was ‘Ragin’ Turbans’.

I wanted this shoot to be culturally diverse, as well as body-diverse. We wanted to show people that anyone could rock a turban!

I found Brittany off Instagram. She’s also an Atlanta-native. Boy, did she transform!

I fell in love with this “Golden Girls” sequin top.

So fierce. I can’t even handle it. I love when my team’s work comes to life!

Erica is also a local Atlanta model and a dance choreographer. Such a pleasure to work with 🙂

For this look, I was going for African Queen. I love how the prints mix and collide.

Queen Erica.

I had an idea for a dress. Sumiyyah took my idea and made it come to life. The dress fit like a glove. I love designing!

So, at the end of the day, this was an amazing shoot. Everyone chipped in when I started to freak out. Clothes and bits of fabric was everywhere. All in all I had a wonderful time curating this shoot. Thanks to everyone who was involved :0 🙂 😮

Ford Community & Performing Arts Center

20150517_142241So let’s talk about my beat face for a sec. This green dramatic cut-crease was everything. Thanks Madinah 🙂

20150517_180228Jannah (in the middle) was the fashion and event coordinator for the expo. She invited me to speak about my personal style, catching good deals, and how to walk in any room and own it!

My lil sis, also named Jannah, came out to support. Like our ugly fake laughs? Ha.

20150517_153740My fashionable friend, Cassy, also came out to support! Love her dress.

20150517_175537Model, Aliyah, rocking a custom made dress and turban.

20150517_162232Mama and baby turbans 🙂

20150517_165648My hubby came and showed out of course. Man Style!

20150517_172656Oh, look, there’s Etta and Jennifer from Naturally Flyy Detroit.

I was very naive about the world since I hadn’t had a conventional upbringing in the public school system. I was homeschooled, and I had no idea that girls could be so mean. I used to think ‘ALL’ girls were evil. I was a smaller fat back then but I never dressed trendy, which was always an issue. They’d talk about how weird my black nail polish was or why I wore glitter on my eyes. Big girls just wanted attention they said. When I got into the workplace, it got worse. Because I’ve always had a strong presence without even speaking, women seemed to take that as a threat. That by my mere existence I was threatening. Fast forward, I’m not even gonna go into where a lot of these folks are... It’s Ramadan and I’m not gonna spill the tea. Okurrrrrr. But, all this to say one women’s gain isn’t your loss. Someone’s self confidence isn’t an attack on you. I’m sooo glad that I got rid of individuals who side-eyed my accomplishments. Told me ‘you changed’. Or, always had something negative to say about ideas I had. Clear 👏🏾 your 👏🏾 space 👏🏾 Girls and women. Smile at your fellow girl in passing. Tell her her lippie is amazing. That her skin is flawless. That her hijab is on point. That her presentation is strong. Have you had frenemies before? Why don’t more women congratulate one another instead of taking your accomplishment as an attack? Let’s spill the teaaaaaa!
