Blogger Meet & Greet with Leah V.
Lakeside Mall: Lord & Taylor
Sterling Heights, MI
(I’m searching for the perfect fall ensemble for my model for the event.)
I was contacted by Nicole, store manager of Lord & Taylor, to talk about their new and improved Plus-Size section including brands from Jessica Simpson, Calvin Klein, and Michel Kors, just to name a few.
(My beautiful model, Amanda Sweet, in her 1st outfit.)
This was Lord & Taylor’s first blogger meet and greet in-store. I decided to get two models and style them live. I also was able to style myself from head to toe in L&T’s plus section.
Strutting her stuff. All black with a splash of flair and color.
Outfit #2 with paparazzi…A.K.A Style bloggers.
Outfit #3 says I work hard, but I play harder.
I also styled my bff, Madinah. Love the warm-toned accents.
Want to give a huge shout-out to all my blogger buddies that came out to support.
Here are my ladies from Style Trifecta.
Lil Miss JB Style was in the house!
Thanks to the friendly customers who stopped by.
Thanks to Nicole who allowed us to rummage through her store. Haha.
Oh, hey, there’s Eden from Chic in the Tropics.
Baby Dallas, Eden, and Thaad.
All smiles 🙂

LV: What were your fashion inspirations growing up?
AH: I found fashion inspirations everywhere. I adopted a kind of tomboy-ish look as well as preppy. I always seemed to notice when people wore unique outfits and often used that as creative inspiration.
LV: Describe your style identity as an adolescent?
AH: I was very big on loose fitting t-shirts and skinny colored jeans and sneakers. I grew up in Detroit as well as Texas, so my dress had to vary due to the differences in temperature. As I got older, I had more time to shop and customize my wardrobe so that my style would differ daily.
LV: When did you decide that you wanted to be involved in modeling?
AH: I’ve always wanted to try modeling but I was in high-school sports and academics so it took up a lot of my time. It also didn’t help that I was very shy. Once I obtained my bachelor’s degree, I had a lot more time and started auditioning for shows. I fell in love with it immediately!
LV: What magazines, campaigns, organizations, and/or media have you been featured in?
AH: I have been featured in Ambassador Magazine, Women’s Elevation Magazine, Hour Magazine, and Xpressions magazine to name a few.
LV: What types of setbacks or obstacles have you faced as a woman in the fashion industry?
AH: An obstacle I routinely face is size discrimination. The industry wants you to be really small. I attended a casting for the Mercedes Benz Fashion Week to walk for Project Runway, but after I walked someone measured my hips and said they were “too big”. I looked around and noticed that a lot of the girls were a size 0 or at the biggest a 2. I am small but not that small. I fit a dress size 2 and my hips are a 35 but the lady who measured me said I was a 38 hip. Each obstacle or struggle has made me stronger, eager, and even more appreciative of the work I do book and the people I work with.

LV: What are some of the projects you are working on currently?
AH: I have a casting this weekend with BET. A few weeks from now. I have a casting in Georgia for a runway show. I also have two fashion shows and a photoshoot coming up at the end of May. Next week, I have an audition with an agency that I am excited about as well.
LV: Define beauty and confidence…
AM: Beauty is a way of being. It’s an attitude. I think beauty has more to do with the way you carry yourself, your personality, and how you conduct yourself. Physically you may be beautiful, but for others that may not be the case. Confidence is believing in your abilities, knowing your strengths, embracing your weaknesses and flaws, but loving them all equally.
LV: What advice would you give other women who are in your position or want to get to your position?
AH: My advice would be to stay true to yourself. Also find those in your corner that really care about you and help elevate you.
LV: Leave us with an awesome quote.
AH: “Optimism is the faith that leads to achievement. Nothing can be done without hope and confidence.”

New Year’s Eve Glam

2015 is only hours away. It is truly a time to reflect and be grateful. This year was both challenging and awesome. I finished a thesis paper, I was invited to be in my first blogger fashion competition, and I was interviewed on a New York radio station. Wow. Never in a million years would I think that anyone would be interested in me enough to invite me on a show.
2015 will be our year! And I am also launching a new fashion channel on YouTube. Stay tuned for that.
Myself and the people who are inspired to get up every day and DO something to make a change for themselves and for others, I truly commend you.
I have one last thing to say to all my readers, supporters, and fashionable friends before I see you in the new year: Keep going. Never let anyone dull your glitter 🙂
Check out these fab photos before you leave…
One Swak Dress: Two Styles
Posted November 8, 2014
on:
Last year, I won a contest in Toronto and was given a $200 shopping spree by SexyPlus Boutique. I picked out this magenta colored dress by SWAK designs. It fits my wide hips and falls perfectly. I am short, so usually dresses are too short or too long.
So, I was at a wedding recently and paired this dress with a polka dot cardigan and a magenta colored scarf to match. It was cute yet simple.
So, this one was taken at a picnic this summer. I wanted to be a little edgy so I paired the dress with pearls, a twist turban, and some killer 70’s inspired shades from Forever 21.
Which style do you like best? And why?
Playing in Make-Up with Madinah
Posted July 11, 2014
on:Gosh. I just love when Madinah does my make-up. She wanted to try a soft face with a blue lip.
She also wrapped my turban for me. I love the new style.

I wish my skin looked this smooth everyday. The struggle.
Yes, it’s a photo shoot. All black everything ‘curvy style’ with polka dot leggings underneath a sheer maxi dress from
Forever 21.

“Kendra’s Fashion Challenge”
Posted May 28, 2014
on:So I got an email from Kendra Thornton (pictured below), a travel expert and owner of a PR firm in Chicago. Kendra has been featured on CBS, NBC, CW, FOX, and ABC. She also was on The Nate Show and The Tyra Banks Show! I was elated when she told me that she loved my blog…and my style. Kendra wanted me to be involved in “Kendra’s Fashion Challenge” where selected bloggers choose their favorite looks for her to wear during her upcoming trip to The Big Apple.
Here is what she wrote:
In a few weeks, my friends and I will be going to New York City for a time of fun and excitement. While we are there, we will be visiting some amazing places and having the time of our lives. On one special night, we will be at experiencing The Standard High Line Hotel. I have heard a number of good things about this place, and it will be great to be there. In order for me to stay in this beautiful NYC hotel, I need an outfit that will enhance my night out with my friends. I really am in need of some fashion counsel. That is why I have created “Kendra’s Fashion Challenge.” After all, I am a mother of three, and my priorities have been focused on them and my husband. I am not saying that is a bad thing, but I need some help with my wardrobe.
So, without further ado, here are the top three looks I have chosen for Kendra:
For look number one, I chose something casual yet flirty. I’ve been to New York a few times and for the most part the style is very laid back. This outfit can go from day to evening by throwing a blazer over the striped shirt and swapping out the shades for some sparkly earrings.
For outfit number two, I switched it up a little. I call this look business with a pop of color. I can envision Kendra in this for sure! The white a-line skirt shows just enough leg to make the guys wonder but not enough to become Miley’s twin. This ensemble can be worn with or without the blazer.
For look number three, I chose a wild card! If Kendra wants to pop out on a cool night with friends in NYC at an art gallery or catching a bite to eat, then she will definitely turn heads with this one. We have hot pink, high-waist, wide-legged pants with a sheer red ruffle blouse, and white pointy toe heels. And let’s not forget the bling.
Which look would you prefer for Kendra’s night out?
