“Rockin’ The Hoodie”

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

Got an email from Idakoos wanting to send me a customized hoodie. I am in love with hoodies. So warm and snuggly. And it being customized was even better.

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

It took me a long time to come up with something to put on the front. I’m a writer. This should be easy for me, right? There was so many things I wanted to say, but I wanted the hoodie to reflect who I am to the person whose reading it.

Since hashtags are trendy, I stared with those.

#Curvy

#Black

#Hijabi

Killen’ The Game.

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

I chose these words because they are who I am. And frankly, I am a quite unapologetic about each one. I’m curvy, so there is a stigma that I’m lazy or unhealthy. I am Black, so I am ghetto or poor. I am Muslim, so I am oppressed or a terrorist. I can be all of those words and be none of the stigmas attached. So I put the last phrase on there to solidify it all. I kill the game, which means I am confident in my abilities to go above and beyond. So boom!

The Idakoos sweater was easy to create and shipped pretty fast. The material is heavy duty and the inside is warm and soft. You have the option to buy one or 100+ Definitely check them out.

Style Blog X Self

I’ve been blogging for a little second now, but just beginning to take it seriously. Hell, I’ve just started to take myself seriously. Instead of treating my blog like Instagram or Facebook, where I post pretty pictures, I should be treating it like a diary–a virtual diary. Isn’t that’s what blogs are for? Blogs were created to be that independent platform where creatives and internet revolutionaries could have a voice.

Since I am turning the big 2.8. and embarking on different journeys, I am self-reflecting on who I am, what am I doing, and what had I initially set out to do? In these days and times, the world is so fast, people have quick access to so many avenues and channels that no one has time to stop, mediate, and think. And since, I am nearing 30, I feel the need to take a breather and take it down a notch.

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

Life is everything vs. self. You always have to come back to self at the end of the day. I think that’s important to say, but so easily forgotten. I need the same reminder as well. That’s why I am so grateful to have creatives around me so that they can say, “Hey, you’re getting crazy. Come back to life and we’ll talk. K?”

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

Like my buddy, Madinah 🙂 Who beats my face and takes photos of me. What more could I ask for? Haha.

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

I think everyone should walk through life with a long cape on and a smile on their face. We’re getting old, have fun sometimes!

I had a lot of fun with this shoot, even though it was hot as heck outside. Us, Michiganders, aren’t used to very hot days. lol.

Stubby ‘n’ fierce. Bye Felicia!

The photo above shows a lady who just got off a plane, had about four hours of sleep, and curated an entire photo-shoot with wardrobe included for four models from another state. Mind blown.

So basically, I was introduced to Sumiyyah of Ann Nahari earlier this year. We clicked immediately. She told me she had equipment. I told her I could get models and curate the shoot. We came up with this set of beautiful photos. Our concept was ‘Ragin’ Turbans’.

I wanted this shoot to be culturally diverse, as well as body-diverse. We wanted to show people that anyone could rock a turban!

I found Brittany off Instagram. She’s also an Atlanta-native. Boy, did she transform!

I fell in love with this “Golden Girls” sequin top.

So fierce. I can’t even handle it. I love when my team’s work comes to life!

Erica is also a local Atlanta model and a dance choreographer. Such a pleasure to work with 🙂

For this look, I was going for African Queen. I love how the prints mix and collide.

Queen Erica.

I had an idea for a dress. Sumiyyah took my idea and made it come to life. The dress fit like a glove. I love designing!

So, at the end of the day, this was an amazing shoot. Everyone chipped in when I started to freak out. Clothes and bits of fabric was everywhere. All in all I had a wonderful time curating this shoot. Thanks to everyone who was involved :0 🙂 😮

Fashion Blogger Meet & Greet

Before I get into all the fabulous pictures and my beat face and the event, I want to stop and thank Summiyah for inviting me to Atlanta to run a photo shoot (photos coming soon)! We talked back and forth for over six weeks trying to come up with ideas and concepts. She said, “Let’s do ragin’ turbans!”

My reply, “Let’s do it. When and where?”

So, thanks so much for allowing me to create, showcase my talents, and merge them with your own.

*Muah 🙂

(The Hubby)

I want to give a large shout out to my husband for making it possible for me to travel. He also helped behind the scenes. He ironed model’s clothes and he set up equipment. Thanks bae!

I also styled him. You like his vintage shirt?

A few friends and fans came to meet me.

Yes. My face is huge, but beat. And my Susu came to see me. She is a local designer in the Atlanta area.

Eid Mubarak. Happy Eid 🥳 Whew! We made it through another Ramadan. I honestly didn’t think that I’d be able to participate since the pandemic. We couldn’t go to the mosque or attend those lavish dinners. I wouldn’t be able to get my henna done or shop. At the beginning, I contemplated not participating at all. I had to drive back from Detroit to NYC because I was too scared to fly. I had to look for an apartment. I had a whole breakdown. Figuring out where my income was going to come. This Ramadan has been unique and challenging. I yearned for that spiritual connection. Tomorrow isn’t promised to anyone. So, I took it day by day. I didn’t fast the entire Ramadan, but on the days that I did I felt empowered. Enlightened. I listened to lectures. Prayed. Meditated. Stretched. No, I wasn’t the model Muslimah who was on time for all the prayers, fasted everyday, or didn’t slip up and cuss 😂 But I’m proud I got some things done. As I said in the start of Ramadan, this was never a race. We don’t get brownie points for outdoing another person. Religion. Spirituality is personal journey. No, I didn’t get to walk down the Islamic red carper this Eid, but I was able to get fresh air and sun. Listen to the prayer on YouTube. And break necks 😜 Whether you’re Muslim or not, I want you to know that I’m so proud of you. Don’t be discouraged to be a better version of yourself. No matter how others tell you how you aren’t doing it right. I was discouraged from being Muslim many of times by others. But, guess what? I’m still Muslim. Still a Hijabi. *Tongue pop* What have you gotten out of this Ramadan? And, for my non-Muslims, did y’all attempt to fast? Lastly, feel free to gas me 😜 Let’s chat. P.S.S. I now have an Amazon Wishlist for my Virtual Housewarming. #newyorkblogger #psootd #plussize #instafashion #bodypositive #honormycurves #effyourbeautystandards #fatphobia #blackgirlswhoblog #fashion #londonblogger #psfashion #blackgirlmagic #muslimgirl #bodyconfidence #plusmodel #feminist #intersectionalfeminism #turbanista #bodydysmorphia #fatacceptance #selflove #goldenconfidence #modestfashion #ootd #womenempowerment #beautybloggers #eidmubarak #eid #blackouteid
