20150517_142241So let’s talk about my beat face for a sec. This green dramatic cut-crease was everything. Thanks Madinah ๐Ÿ™‚

20150517_180228Jannah (in the middle) was the fashion and event coordinator for the expo. She invited me to speak about my personal style, catching good deals, and how to walk in any room and own it!

My lil sis, also named Jannah, came out to support. Like our ugly fake laughs? Ha.

20150517_153740My fashionable friend, Cassy, also came out to support! Love her dress.

20150517_175537Model, Aliyah, rocking a custom made dress and turban.

20150517_162232Mama and baby turbans ๐Ÿ™‚

20150517_165648My hubby came and showed out of course. Man Style!

20150517_172656Oh, look, there’s Etta and Jennifer from Naturally Flyy Detroit.

20150516_192255(Etta Flyy, Raina B., Myself, and Quiet Flyy)

I met Etta and Jennifer last year at a natural hair event at WSU. They were really tall and boisterous. Not to mention their hair was super dope. I met them again at the restaurant they own, Sweet Potato Sensations, in Redford. Months went by…

20150516_154010

One day, Etta asked me if I’d be interested in doing a “headwrapping” session at their event. Hellz yeah! I replied. When and Where?

20150516_151332(One of my turban tutorial models)

When I tell you these ladies showed out…they showed out! Many of the women packed into the room, wanting to know everything about turbans and how to tie them.

20150516_161422Another happy turban model

20150516_180047(My view of the audience!)

So not only was I able to teach the ladies about turbans, but I also got to speak on the style and fashion panel.

20150516_162639

My friends came out to support ๐Ÿ™‚

And we got to meet Mia Ray, fashion & lifestyle blogger

Raina B. sat next to me on the panel. A positive force, indeed.

Ebony, Trish’s Garage, was also on the panel.

Thanks so much for having me Naturally Flyy Detroit!!!

Last year, I won a contest in Toronto and was given a $200 shopping spree by SexyPlus Boutique. I picked out this magenta colored dress by SWAK designs. It fits my wide hips and falls perfectly. I am short, so usually dresses are too short or too long.

20141025_181400So, I was at a wedding recently and paired this dress with a polka dot cardigan and a magenta colored scarf to match. It was cute yet simple.

20140822_202106

So, this one was taken at a picnic this summer. I wanted to be a little edgy so I paired the dress with pearls, a twist turban, and some killer 70’s inspired shades from Forever 21.

20140822_202146

Which style do you like best? And why?

I3

Gosh. I just love when Madinah does my make-up. She wanted to try a soft face with a blue lip.

I2

She also wrapped my turban for me. I love the new style.

I1

I wish my skin looked this smooth everyday. The struggle.

I5

Yes, it’s a photo shoot. All black everything ‘curvy style’ with polka dot leggings underneath a sheer maxi dress from

Forever 21.

I (heart) my MUA!

(Backstage with the headwrap stylists)

Zarinah El-Amin Naeem is the chief founder of the Headwrap Expo, first debuting her show last year in Dearborn with hundreds of people from diverse backgrounds and cultures coming together for several causes: interfaith relations, the art of headwrapping, and fashion. She plans to take her expo on the road to the Big Apple, New York in November.

I had the pleasure of working with all the models in the fashion segments, teaching them how to walk with poise and pose for the cameras like never before. I must say, I am so very proud of all of you who ‘werked’ and ‘ripped’ the runway.

expo3Look at all of these colors and textures!

expo5You know we had to take some selfies before my loves went on stage ๐Ÿ™‚

expo6expo7expo8One of the fab make-up artists who made magic behind the scenes.

expo12Marketta and her sister, Jathiyah, really made the fashion segments run smoothly. They didn’t get any sleep trying to figure out the what-was-whats. Congrats to our fashion coordinators!

ย  It was a tiring day, but I always have time to pose.

Oh, yes. The sun is out. And hopefully here to stay. The sun gives me life and so does color. I haven’t blogged in a long time since I am still wrapping up my master’s program, but I am back now y’all! Are you ready to be glamorized?

20140427_172735

OOTD Details: This dress is from Dot’s Fashions. I bought it like five years ago!

The undershirt was also from the same store and unfortunately they are going out of business!

The turban and neck scarves are from Forever 21 and so are the shades. $5.80 for the shades too. Can’t beat that price.

And the bracelet I got from Jamaica.

20140427_172755I was out and about with my nieces. She is posing like auntie. lol.

This pose was very iffy. Scary actually. Iโ€™ve always had this complex about sitting down in photos. Iโ€™d tell people to never take photos of me while seated. To never post them. Chile, it was serious. It seemed like my whole body would morph into this huge ball, a blob of a body. There werenโ€™t any straight lines and length or shape. All I saw was a round person. Laying down? Even worst. My chest seems to spill into the two inches of neck I have and itโ€™s just a mess. For some reason, I saw this bright yellow couch at @bulletin.co where @blairimani had her very lovely book launch (shameless plug ๐Ÿ˜ญ). And, I was like I should lay on this. My friend was like yah, do it! And, then when it came time to actually do it, I became hesitant. Imma look like a damn blob, I thought. Iโ€™m gonna hate this photo. Other ppl will think I look like a blob, too. I got on the couch anyway and pretended to be one of those fancy ladies in those old paintings. Nude and round and confident in their skin. Sometimes, we get in our own way. We overthink how the world views us when we are truly projecting our own insecurities. I became my own worst critic but then rectified it by jumping in headfirst into my own insecurities. Just gotta do what makes you feel uncomfortable. Discomfort is growth, people! *Tongue pop* In what ways are you hindering yourself, being your own worst critic? Be honest. And, is there a pose or angle that you feel insecure about? Letโ€™s chat.
