Now back to the behind the scenes photos at the model casting last Monday… You had to be tall to meet the requirements for both shows. So all the shorties out there, you’ll have to miss out on this one 😦

Fashfash2

The models first had to sign in. After they signed in, they had to take the height test. Once that was passed then you went to get measured.

fash5fash6

fash10fash8

We had all kinds of hopeful models show up. Male models too.

fash7

A possible model strutting for the judges.

fash3This girl right here had a mean model walk. Werk!

We had an awesome turnout. Now time to choose. Who will model in the final showcase? Stay tuned to find out.

Curves Rock Weekend

Baltimore, MD

7/27/13

Curves

I was supposed to be in Baltimore on Friday night. I was delayed at the airport for nine hours due to weather and flew in at 1:30am on Saturday. I woke up at 8:00am and got ready to help at Curves Rock Weekend Fashion Show.

I had a game plan. Lack of sleep wasn’t going to stop me.

curves2

Faces beat before the show. Pose.

curves5

Hair done before the show. Look at the dedication in her face.

curves6

I was on my way to the Curves Rock Discussion Panel and bumped into this beauty, Jade of K Station Boutique in Baltimore, MD. She tells me she has this dress in stock as well.

The panel members. (Left) Ashley Stewart models Anita Marshal and Nicole Zepeda. (Right) Jade and model, Samantha Lebbie.

curves8

The panel discussion was about confidence, self-esteem, breaking into the industry, and much more.

curves10

The entire panel. Great, great talk. And much advice given. (Left to right) Bella Styles, Tionna Smalls, Nina Taylor, Anita Marshall, Nicole Zepeda, and Jade

(Left) Tionna Smalls author and host of MTV’s show Girl, Get Your Mind Right slayed the competition.

(Right) Nicole and I. She killed me in this dress. Love the print.

curves16

The Torrid models.

curves19

They are going to kill me for this one. At least Jessica was ready 🙂

curves21curves25

We had vibrant colors.

curves20curves23

We had sex kittens.

curves24

Swimsuits and legs for days.

curves27curves28

Some of the Fall looks. I am ready for fall because of these outfits. Chic and comfy.

curves26

The queen has arrived. This design was from Shanda Freeman. One of her many awesome designs.

curves30

Shanda’s entire line. Hey, there is Shanda in the middle. Magnificent.

curves29

I got to see behind the scenes and in front of the scenes.

curves31curves32

(Left) Got a pic with the host and top model, Liris Crosse. She is a tall drink of cool water.

(Right) Author of My Fat Is Not A Flaw, TroJah Irby-Morgan. I finally got to meet her.

Nicole and I after the show. She showed me some dance moves 🙂

The International Fuller Woman Expo

Yonge Dundas Sqaure

Toronto

July 14, 2013

This is the flyer that set my whole fashionable mind into motion. I said to myself, “you gotta’ get here”.

ds22ds25

The show began with a belly dance show. Aye aye aye. Fantastico!

ds20ds24

(left) The show’s host, Nikki Clarke, brought up several audience members to win prizes!!!

(Right) The buxom beauty who works with the founder of the Fuller Woman Expo, Georgia Greenwood, and is the director of U.S. operations, Cassandra Jones-McBryde.  She is also feature editor of Daily Venus Diva Magazine. Werk it diva.

ds

This lady is the sweetest lady ever. She brought me on stage and I ended up winning a $250 shopping spree to SexyPlus Clothing in Toronto. Shout out to Stefanie Augusteijn the owner of the lovely boutique and her saleswoman, Sabrina.

ds21

The oh-so-sexy, fierce, and up and coming plus size model, Tierra Sedgemore

ds6ds7

(Left) We have a motivational speaker, Liz McCallum of Big, Beautiful Wellness, telling us to love ourselves and our bodies. (Right) All the way from Nova Scotia we got a Stylistah in the audience. Shantia Upshaw is the owner/CEO of the Weight is Over Revolution. Several of her models were in the show as well. I stopped her because she is fab with her bright floral print dress. Can you say “showstopper”?

ds23

The models came out fierce

ds8 ds9

Were now going into the actual show which showcased a few Toronto based boutiques. These are my favorite pieces.

ds10ds11

The long Asian inspired dress gives me life. I wanted to go on stage and rip it off of her. Opps. Sorry. I get a little excited when I see a piece of art work in the form of a dress.

ds12ds13

I love the colors here. The models were just too gorgeous.

ds14ds15

Ladies, all I have to say is WERK! Sex kittens for real.

ds16ds19

Simple, elegant colors never looked so good.

ds17

It took me some time to think about it, but this is my all-time favorite dress. I wish I had a picture of the back. Fashion at its best. And look how the model flirts with the fabric and the audience.

ds5

This was the end of the first half of the show. Unfortunately, I didn’t get to stay to see Whitney Thompson, winner of America’s Next Top Model season ten, host. I had to snap this last pic of the models and photographers. Aint’ they adorable?

ny1

The day started out with a missed flight and a super late arrival to Bloomingdale’s in NYC. I almost gave up and didn’t go at all. I was discouraged because I missed the show. Then I saw some amazing pictures from several official bloggers from the Full Figured Fashion Week crew and got re-inspired.  I hoped on the bus and then the nearest subway with a friend I’d just met and we embarked on a fashion journey…

ny I did my makeup in like two seconds and hoped on the subway.

ny2 The show had just ended. I was so mad!

ny3 I sulked and ate a delicious lemon tart.

ny4 I did what made me feel better: posing 🙂

ny7 Things started to look up. I got to meet a wonderful photographer from Paris. Then I started to meet other cool Stylistahs as well. JOY.

ny5I met a cool gal named Amirah Taylor, the CEO of “Please Feed The Models” and she invited me to a show in NYC in July. Plus we have the same names. Coincidence? Or destiny.

ny8 I had to capture this retro Stylistah. Camelia is a model and a make-up artist. I love the way she mixed all my favorite colors in one. Rockin’ Retro is what I call it.

ny10 Paris is a writer, singer, and creative innovator. And her style is awesome.

ny12 Acting silly with Bumblebee from the Transformers.

ny13 As you can tell, we are engaged . He put a ring on it.

ny14 I told her to give me Fierce and look how the pic turned out. A little midriff and little leg never hurt anyone. NYC style star.

ny15 I found these two adorable young ladies in turbans and blouses. The best of combinations in my opinion. One is sporty, one is skirty. Love it!

And I just want to say for the record, the army fatigue shirt I am wearing in these pics has been lost while I was traveling from NYC to Pennsylvania. Tears. I only got to wear it once…

It’s another celebration 🎉 I hope y’all aren’t tired of me sharing my wins. Sometimes I think like am I doing too much by sharing these things? Am I making other people feel bad? But, at the same time, I don’t only share my wins, my accomplishments. I share my heartbreaks and my failures, too. I’ve had a lot of them. I’m not on here trying to make you feel like you can’t. I’m on here to show you that you most certainly can. And I hope by sharing, you get the jolt to do what you thought or were told that you could never do. If you aren’t a hater then just roll with me on this wave, because who knows, maybe next month I won’t be hot shit anymore 🤷🏽‍♀️😂 It has been a month since my book baby has dropped in bookstores across the U.S. and y’all have shared your copies and attended events and told friends about it. Some of y’all even wrote some reviews—if you haven’t then get to it! Amazon, Goodreads, whateva. Pretty please. *Tongue pop* My friend sent me this article from @theoaklandpress and guess the fuck what?!? Ya girl is #3 on the Michigan Independent Bookseller Best Sellers List for the month of October 😭 I may not be number 1 or even number 2 on the list but I am number 3! A damn list! Like each and every one of y’all who has bought my book and promoted it have directly caused a chain link reaction. Every book counts. Every share. Review. Every time you tag me, like something on my page, or shout me out, directly goes into boosting this platform. This may be the only list I ever get on, maybe. I may not sell not one more book. Either way, I’m grateful and I’m honored. Do you feel the need to share every accomplishment? Or are you one to hide your wins from people? What’s the thin line between boasting? Let’s chat. 📸 @alexis.devaney #newyorkblogger #psootd #plussize #instafashion #bodypositive #bgki #honormycurves #effyourbeautystandards #pizzasisters4lyfe #blackgirlswhoblog #fashion #londonblogger #psfashion #blackgirlmagic #muslimgirl #bodyconfidence #plusmodel #feminist #wiw #intersectionalfeminism #turbanista #bodydysmorphia #fatacceptance #selflove #unashamedleahv #streetstyle #queen #ootd #animalprint
