SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

Got an email from Idakoos wanting to send me a customized hoodie. I am in love with hoodies. So warm and snuggly. And it being customized was even better.

It took me a long time to come up with something to put on the front. I’m a writer. This should be easy for me, right? There was so many things I wanted to say, but I wanted the hoodie to reflect who I am to the person whose reading it.

Since hashtags are trendy, I stared with those.

#Curvy

#Black

#Hijabi

Killen’ The Game.

I chose these words because they are who I am. And frankly, I am a quite unapologetic about each one. I’m curvy, so there is a stigma that I’m lazy or unhealthy. I am Black, so I am ghetto or poor. I am Muslim, so I am oppressed or a terrorist. I can be all of those words and be none of the stigmas attached. So I put the last phrase on there to solidify it all. I kill the game, which means I am confident in my abilities to go above and beyond. So boom!

The Idakoos sweater was easy to create and shipped pretty fast. The material is heavy duty and the inside is warm and soft. You have the option to buy one or 100+ Definitely check them out.

Here’s my before and after photo. I thought I’d add my own personal one to the mix. Mine may not seem to fit the usual before/after photos that you’re used to on the net. The ones labeled “transformation” “body goals” or “fitspiration”. Mine goes from smaller to bigger. Less weight to more weight. Eating Disorders to recovering from Eating Disorders. The first photo wasn’t even taken at my lowest weight. When I’d gotten down to 146 by the worst kind of ways possible, I hadn’t taken photos. To me, if I wasn’t 130 pounds then I was a slob who hadn’t deserved to be seen. I found this photo last night. Tears welled. It reminded me of my toxic past. I was 18 years old and in college. A closed mouth smile because I hated my teeth. I thought my stomach was the biggest, so I sucked it in, as tightly as I could. My hands are covering my wide hip. I read somewhere that posing like this slimmed the hips in photos. I gravitated towards dark jeans and black pants. Again. It was slimming. I wouldn’t be caught dead in the outfit on the right. Cellulite in public! *Gasps* What would other people think? Thirteen years later and over a hundred pounds more. I’m wearing things that magazines told me not to. I’m skipping body shapers. I’m not always sucking it in. I am nourishing my body. I’m being good to my body. I’m no longer asking, “what will other people think”. What’s some interesting (or downright ridiculous) advice that you were given or read about dressing for your body type? When you dress do you find yourself asking, “what will other people think?” Any body type is welcome to answer.
