Ready To Stare

Holiday Collection Launch

Cleveland, OH

IMG_7096 (Owner: Alysse Dalessandro)

Around the time I started my own blog, I searched Instagram for a few fabulous fatties such as myself. I came across Alysse Dalessandro of Ready To Stare. I loved the name of her business. I loved her attitude. Her style is quirky, funky, and most importantly unapologetic.

Not only is she creative and cool. She’s a writer and is also a huge body positive advocate. In everything she does, there is intent and purpose. She’s fearful and pushes the boundaries of not only fashion but the status quo.

I’ve never met Alysse in person, but I follow her on basically every social media network and can see the changes she’s making in the industry. I feel as though we have a connection, because she paves her own path of style and business as she sees fit. And frankly, she does a stellar job at it. With that said, she is absolutely kick-ass! She’s one of my fave bloggers and businesswoman. I am sooooooooo excited to be one of the + bloggers to view her first holiday collection.

And Psst. I heard they already sold out some of the exclusive pieces already!

Ready To Stare: “The collection was inspired by taboo silhouettes for fat bodies and the idea that the use of the word “flattering” in plus size fashion is just another way that our society polices fat bodies.”

“Instead of only presenting items that “hug your curves” or “create an hourglass illusion,” this collection is about a love of fashion. If Rihanna can wear a pouffy hot pink gown to the Grammy’s, why can’t a fat person wear a similar silhouette to their Holiday party?”

Yaaaaaaaaaassssss!

So, here’s my verdict. Wear what you want, when you want, and how YOU want. Don’t let trends or bloggers or the catwalk dictate what YOU feel good in. It seems like the world has become this super critical ball of confusion. You’re too this or too that! How about you be the best YOU. And I’ll leave my little rant at that. Haha.

I love the colors, the prints, the velvety textures, the ridiculously huge bows, and fierceness accompanying the shoot.

So yall go cop these sweet high-quality pieces. And check out the website for the entire lookbook @ http://www.readytostare.com/

I don’t know why I’m so nervous. But, I am. You get to see the @simplybeuk ad here before it’s aired on TV right before the show X Factor tomm. Me. My face. On a whole ass commercial. I’m a bit at lost for what this all means to be apart of the #morethanourbodies campaign, but I just want to share this. I was 13. Bigger than all the other girls my age. Clothes for plus-size folks were nonexistent. On top of that, Mom was a single mother of 5. She hadn’t had the funds. I was frumpy. Some ppl had mistaken me for a boy. My confidence down the drain. Mom put my younger brother in modeling. He was half Black, half Algerian. Everyone said he’d do good modeling because of his looks. I used to watch ANTM. I knew how to smize. Knew all the moves and poses. I sat in the audience watching all the models. Watching my brother not do very well on stage. I could do that, I told myself. I wanted to ask Mom so badly to let me do it, let my try. But, after seeing the others, I noticed that none of them looked like me. That world wasn’t for me. And, if I ever wanted to be involved in fashion, then I’d have to style people thinner than me, taller, more proportionate. On set, I was the shortest girl. The biggest in size. The unsigned underdog of the group. But, I earned my spot as the first fat, Black, and very Muslim model to land a major campaign with a retailer in Europe. I’m not sure y’all understand how major this is. How I’ve never had anyone who looked like me tell me it was okay to be unapologetic. How that little Muslim girl is told no, no, no. With my body, I am telling her yes, fuck yes. And, I’m telling you yes! You are valid, your dreams valid. After you gas me 😂 answer this: who in your life gave you permission to be yourself unapologetically, and how? #ad #detroitblogger #psootd #plussize #instafashion #bodypositive #bgki #effyourbeautystandards #girlboss #pizzasisters4lyfe #blackgirlswhoblog #londonblogger #psfashion #blackgirlmagic #muslimgirl #streetstyle #feminist #fatacceptance #psootd #seventeen #turbanista #honormycurves #bodydysmorphia #instabeauty #intersectionalfeminism #fashionblogger #simplybe #eatingdisorderrecovery #editorial #hijabi
