NB Launch

Nina Bitton is a chic fashion line created in Canada that was just launched this year by sisters, Muriel and Hanna Amar (Above).

“We believe that a woman, no matter the size, is only as beautiful as she feels.” – NinaBitton.com

LV: You both are obvious bombshells. How was it growing up for you? Were you always confident or was it something you had to learn as you matured?

Hanna: I personally always had a weight problem, and I only started embracing my curves when this line came out. It taught me to be more bold and confident.

Muriel: I had self-esteem issues growing up, but I’ve worked really hard on loving myself the way I am.

LV: What were your individual styles growing up?

Hanna: Growing up, I was a jeans and t-shirt girl. I wore my hair in a ponytail most of the time but always loved fashion and girly dresses.

Muriel: Growing up, I always stuck to classic pieces but always added something that was in style at the time.

image (2)imageimage (1)

LV: Can you explain your Spring/Summer 2014 line and how you guys started it?

Both: My sister and I decided to launch a plus size clothing line after seeing how much curvy girls struggled with finding sexy and fashionable clothing.

LV: How would you describe your individual styles now?

Both: Muriel has a more classic, clean cut yet femme fatal look and I (Hanna) have more of a rocker chic look with a pinch of baby doll.

LV: How and when did you two decide you wanted to start a plus-size clothing line?

Both: We decided about a year ago that we wanted to mix our styles together and create a fabulous line.

LV: What types of setbacks have you two faced as curvy women?

Hanna: I’ve always been very creative and would always want to wear clothes that I couldn’t find in stores. It’s very tough because to me fashion is expression.

LV: What are some big projects you guys are working on currently?

Both: Right now, we are in the process of getting our line into stores, and working on our next season.

image (3)

LV: What advice would you give other women who are in your position or want to get to your positions?

Both: Go for it because it’s so worth it in the end, it’s a lot of work and stress but when you see someone wearing your dress proudly, that’s the best feeling in the world.

LV: Leave us with an awesome quote.

Both: Dream it. Wish it. Do it.

Ah, it was that time again, and the smell of new and emerging fashion was in the air. I hopped on a plane and flew over to NY not knowing if I would get into a show or even get inside the building.

I got into the building. I didn’t get into any shows 😦 It’s ok though. I met some cool people.

And I got a ton of photographers taking pictures of me. I felt like a real celeb. I was featured on a clip on New York Times Instagram page. Whoop! And I got to do an interview on style with Papyrus.

I am coming up.

Fest

A few months ago, I sought out some styling work in the fashion industry, and I stumbled upon Leslie Ann Philing and F.A.S.H Fest, boy was I excited to work with her and her team on this fashion show. As a “dresser” behind the scenes, we had to wear all black. I went for an edgy chic look.

Let’s break down the look: The scarf, shirt, half jacket, and pants were from Dot’s Fashion, the necklace was from Deb’s, the bracelets were given to me by a friend, the ring was from Claire’s, the studded flats are from Cato’s. Oh, and the shades are from Forever 21. You likey?

Curves

I was supposed to be in Baltimore on Friday night. I was delayed at the airport for nine hours due to weather and flew in at 1:30am on Saturday. I woke up at 8:00am and got ready to help at Curves Rock Weekend Fashion Show.

I had a game plan. Lack of sleep wasn’t going to stop me.

I was on my way to the Curves Rock Discussion Panel and bumped into this beauty, Jade of K Station Boutique in Baltimore, MD. She tells me she has this dress in stock as well.

#Ad I either used to get “oh, you dress pretty for a big girl” or I just got teased for the way I expressed myself with fashion. Even though I was limited as a plus-size Muslim girl growing up, I still found ways to rock an outfit using what I had. Because I liked to wear bold prints and mix pattens and layers, I was a target for harsh comments and hurtful names. A lot of bullies (because that’s what they are) wanted me to fall in line. Be normal. Shine less. So, they belittled me. Laughed at me in front of others. Made fun of the way I expressed myself. I’d always feel like an outsider, but I remember finding freedom in picking and choosing how I adorned my body. The brighter the better. I wanted to stand out when the world told me to take a seat. No matter how much people picked on me or called me weird, I always found a way to be exactly who I was. Unapologetically. I’m excited that retailers like @monsoon have stylish pieces that you can mix and match. Dress modestly if you choose. Modest and stylish do not have to be exclusive. You can be just as bold and sexy. There are so many styles to dive into y’all! You don’t have to follow the trends to be in. Make yo own lane! Have you ever been made fun of for your style choices or fashion sense? Have you ever gotten the “you dress nice for a big girl”? All bodies can chime in.
